The Animal Husbandry Study Program was founded in 1998 with the Decree of the General Director of Higher Education with No. 446 / DIKTI / Kep / 1997 concerning the Establishment of a Major for S1-Undergraduate Animal Production at the Faculty of Agriculture, Sebelas Maret University, dated December 5, 1997. Then starting from April 26, 2006, the Animal Production Study Program changed to Department / Animal Husbandry Study Program based on UNS Rector Decree No. 258 / J27 / PP / 2006 regarding the Change in the status of the study program to a department / study program at the Faculty of Agriculture dated April 26, 2006, and with the Decree of the General Director of Higher Education No. 319 / D / T / 2007 concerning Change of the Name of the Animal Production Study Program to the Animal Husbandry Study Program at Sebelas Maret University Surakarta on February 13, 2007, the Animal Production Study Program was changed to the Animal Husbandry Study Program.

The Animal Husbandry Study Program consists of 4 laboratories, namely:

1. Animal Production Laboratory
2. Animal Nutrition and Forage Laboratory
3. Animal Husbandry Socio-Economic Laboratory
4. Animal Products Processing Industry Laboratory

The Animal Husbandry Study Program has an experimental farm that can be used for practicum and research. It is located in Jatikuwung Village, Gondangrejo District, Karanganyar Regency.
