EFFECT OF SHADING INTENSITY AND WATER STRESSING ON THE GROWTH AND YIELD OF PURWOCENG (Pimpinella pruatjan)

This research aimed to know the water stressed and shading effect the grow of purwoceng outside the original habitat. This research was conducted in Selo, Boyolali, and in the Laboratory of Plant Fisiology and Biotechnology, Agriculture Faculty, UNS Surakarta from November 2012 to May 2013. The research used Completely Randomized Design arranged by factorial treatment consisted of two factors with three replications. The first factor was the level of shade (no shading, 25%, 50%, and 75%). The second factor was the water stress (water giving 100%, 75%, 50%, and 25% field capacity). Data were analyzed with variance and Duncan Multiple Range Test level of 5%. The results showed that there no interaction between the intensity of shading and water stress on the growth and yield of purwoceng. Water giving 100%, 75%, 50%, and 25% field capacity did not increase the yield and growth. Without shading showed highest yield, with average number of leaves (228,17 pieces); number of stalk (28,33 pieces); plant canopy diameter (48,42 cm); fresh weight biomass (80,50 gram); length of plant root (24,75 cm); dry weight biomass (12,92 gram); and the flowers appear early at 11 weeks after planting.
