Domestication of Pasplaum Vaginatum as Ornamental Grass at The Alfisols and Sand Media with Addition of Organic and Inorganic Fertilizer

Abstract :

This study aims to determine the growth of P. vaginatum on different media and fertilizer and to know the characteristics of Alfisols and sand as grass growing media P. vaginatum with different fertilization. This research used Completely Randomized Design (CRD) with planting medium treatment Alfisols and sand and fertilizer that are no fertilizer, organic fertilizer and inorganic. The results showed that the different media and fertilization significantly affect the growth of grass visual quality: density of shoots, grass texture, and color of the leaves and grass functional quality: soil surface covering rate, shoot dry weight, root length, and recovery rate. Different Fertilization significantly affect the characteristics of Alfisols and sand (pH, soil organic matter, total N, available P, available K and electrical conductivity) as a medium for planting grass P. vaginatum. The addition of inorganic fertilizer on Alfisol soil media gives the best visual and functional qualities in this grass species.

The Effect of Water Stress Intensity to The Growth, Yield and Anthocyanin Content of Light Red Roselle and Dark Red Roselle Calyxes

Abstract :

This research aimed at determining the effect of water stress intensity on the growth, yield and anthocyanin content of Light Red and Dark Red Roselle calyxes. The research was conducted from January to June 2012 at Greenhouse of Faculty of Agriculture, University of March Surakarta. The research design used Randomized Complete Design in factorial arranged. The factors are varieties (Light Red Roselle and Dark Red Roselle), and water stress intensity (100% of field capacity/control, 75% of field capacity, 50% of field capacity, and 25% of field capacity). The results showed that water stress reduce the plant height, fresh weight of calyxes and dry weight of calyxes in both Light Red and Dark Red Roselle. The highest of anthocyanin content taken from calyxes of Light Red Roselle were result at 75% of field capacity (23,34 mg/100 g), while the Dark Red Roselle were resulted in the control/field capacity condition (174,69 mg/100 g) and decreased with increasing water stress intensity.

Effect of Bulbs Storage Time and Balancing Dosage of Fertilizer on Growth and Yield of Shallots (Allium ascalonicum)

Abstract :

Shallot is needed as spice by community and the bulbs is used as planting material by farmers. Bulbs storage as planting material can decrease its quality. To solve this, minimizing bulbs storage time without decreasing the quality of growth and yield of shallots by the application of balancing dosage of organic fertilizer, inorganic fertilizer, and their combinations can be done. This research was aimed to know the effect of bulbs storage time, balancing dosage of fertilizer, and both interaction on growth and yield of shallots, and also to get combination of two treatments which gives the best in growth and yield of shallots. This research was carried out using Split Plot Design with three replications, main plot: balancing dosage of fertilizer, and sub plot: bulbs storage time. Result showed that correlation between two treatments occurs in bulbs diameter. Bulbs storage time had significant effect on weight of bulbs per plot. The highest LAI, CGR, and NAR was on 20 ton/ha dosage of organic fertilizer. Two months bulbs storage time gave the highest LAI, while 6 months bulbs storage time gave the highest CGR and NAR. Six months bulbs storage time and 20 ton/ha dosage of organic fertilizer gave the best growth and yield of shallots.

Maize (Zea mays L.) Crop Density On Intercropping With Mungbean (Vigna radiata L.) By Additive Series and Influence to Growth and Yield

Abstract :

This research  to study influence plant density level maize to growth and yield of mungbean in intercropping system and also get density of correct maize intercropping without degrading yield of mungbean production. Sebelas Maret University, Jumantono, Karanganyar. The research design used Randomized Complete Block Design (RCBD) with one treatment factor that is plant spacing of corn grown with additive series. The data analysed using test F level of 5% and if there was significant  difference then continued with DMRT test level of 5%. The experiment results showed various corn distance not influence mungbean yield and growth, maize intercropping 60 x 40 cm obtained yield of highest maize 2210 g (2,55 ton/ha) not differ from monoculture, with corn intercropping not influencing to differencing mungbean yield.

Effect of Water Stress Period to The Growth, Yield, and Anthocyanins Content of Light Red and Dark Red Roselle

Abstract :

Roselle (Hibiscus sabdariffa L.) is a crop that can be used for medicine. Anthocyanins is an important content of secondary metabolite in roselle. Anthocyanins content of a plant increased by water stress. This research aimed to determining the effect of water stress period to the growth and secondary metabolite content of light red roselle and dark red roselle. This research was conducted at Greenhouse of Faculty of Agriculture, UNS from January to June 2012. A completely randomized design was conducted in the two levels of roselle varieties (light red and dark red roselle) and four levels of water stress period (without water stress, 4-7, 6-9, and 8-11 weeks after planting, respectively). The observations variables were plant height,calyxes appeared, weight of fresh calyxes, weight of dry calyxes, and total anthocyanins content. The results showed that plant height was affected by varieties and water stress periods, whereas the weight of fresh calyxes and the weight of dry calyxes are influenced by varieties. Water stress during the period 8-11 weeks after planting increased total anthocyanins content in light red roselle, while different patterns occured in dark red roselle.
