ABSTRACT

Sterculia foetida Linn. is an oval seed plants that can be used as biofuel, which one of the enviromentally friendly fuel. This plant is quite hard to find because not many people who cultivate these plants. Tissue culture is one way to help preserve these plants. This research aims to determine optimum concentration of BAP and IAA to proppagate S. foetida Linn. by in vitro. Results show that 4 ppm BAP and 0.5 ppm IAA is able to produce complete plantlet, whereas 4 ppm BAP and 1 ppm IAA has the best growth of shoot and leaves. ABSTRACT

New Kelud volcanic ash will have negative effects on crops. After incubated in a certain period, Kelud volcanic ash will mineralized so thus nutrients become available to plants. This study aimed to determine the effects of Kelud volcanic ash residues and organic matter to the availability and magnesium contents in maize on the Alfisols. This study was conducted in a greenhouse using a completely randomized design with two factors. The first factor is the thickness of the Kelud volcanic ash (0, 2, 4, and 6 cm), while the second factor is the dose of cow manure (0; 2.5; and 5 ton ha-1), this treatment was repeated 3 times. The results of this study showed that these treatment combinations kelud volcanic ash residues and organic matter effect on Magnesium availability but didn’t affect on other variable. The thickness of Kelud volcanic ash effect magnesium contents in the plant tissue, soil pH, CEC, and chlorophyll, whereas the dose of cow manure didn’t effect to all variables.

ABSTRACT

This study aimed to determine the best substrate and nutrition as well as their interaction on the growth and yield ofchilies. Hydroponic substrate is a modern farming system using media aside soil such as husk, broken tiles, broken bricks, palm fiber, sand, and steamed rice husk. Standard nutrition as a main source of nutrients in a hydroponic substrate, the addition of NPK nutrients used to support the standard nutrient for growth and yield of chili. This study aims to determine the best substrate and nutrition as well as their interaction on growth and yield of chili. Research conducted at screen house Faculty of Agriculture, Sebelas Maret University using a completely randomized design with 2 factors, substrates and nutrients. The data analysis used F test level of 5% and if it’s significant continued with DMRT (Duncan Multiple Range Test) level of 5%. The results showed that treatment sand substrate and nutrients AB mix with the addition of NPK showed the best results and were able to increase plant height, number of leaves, number of flower, fruit weight and number of fruit.

ABSTRACT

This study aims to determine the effect of depth and position of cuttings cultivation on the growth and yield of sweet potatoes (Ipomoea batatas L.), in order to obtain the depth and position of cuttings cultivation can increase the tuber yield. The study design used Randomized Complete Block Design (RCBD) with one treatment factor is the depth and position of cuttings cultivation of sweet potato (Ipomoea batatas L.). This factors consists of six treatment, the R1 (depth and position of cuttings cultivation of 1 vertebra upright), R2 (depth and position of cuttings cultivation of 1 vertebra oblique), R3 (depth and position of cuttings cultivation of 2 segment upright ), R4 (depth and position of cuttings cultivation of 2 segment oblique), R5 (depth and position of cuttings cultivation of 3 sections upright), R6 (depth and position of cuttings cultivation of 3 sections oblique). Each treatment was repeated 4 times repetition, so there are 24 plots treatment. Variable observation observed growth variables (diameters, fresh weight and dry weight of straws) and the outcome variable (number of tuber of a plot, tuber length, diameter of the bulb, tuber weight of a plant, tuber weight of a plot). The results showed that the treatment depth and position of cuttings cultivation of sweet potato  significant effect on tuber diameter, tuber number of aplot, weight of tuber of a plant, tuber weight of a plot, fresh weight and dry weight of straws.

ABSTRACT

Rojolele is a local prime variety that hasn’t been cultivated well by our farmers because of their lacks such as long harvest time needed, over height stem, and pest de-resistance. So there should be enhancement of Rojolele’s quality, one way to achieve it is by induction mutation using radiation of gamma ray. This research is targeted to select better quality of radiated plant compared with their previous plants. This research takes place on field around Nangsri Lor Village, Kebakkramat, Karanganyar. This research was held and organized in a squared experimentation of examining every plants with radiation and compare them with controlled plants to find out their differences and the effect of radiation to Rojolele’s growth. Result showed 20 strains with mutant potential, based on their positive character of their each individuals. Strain T112 with radiation dosage of 300 grays has very short height of 127cm, strain T10 with 200 grays of radiation dosage has tallest panicle of 39,5cm, strain T20 with 200 grays of radiation dosage has highest number of tiller of 10 stems, strain T121 with 100 grays of radiation dosage has 8 stems of stems, which is the highest number of tillers productivity, strains T30 with 200 grays of radiation dosage has highest number of filled unhulled rice of 1104 pulps and strains T77 with 300 grays of radiation dosage has highest percentage of filled unhulled rice of 97,25% and strains T(1-4) with 100 grays and T(1-5) with 200 grays of radiation dosage has shortest harvest time of 142 days.
